This season we were delighted to receive funding support from the Sports Council for Glasgow (SCIO) through its General Grant Scheme. The support was used to assist in paying for our training sessions throughout the year at Glasgow Green Football Centre, ensuring our players had great facilities to train at.
The General Grant Scheme is one of the ways in which the (SCIO) helps the advancement of public participation in sport. In particular, the General Grant Scheme aims to:
– encourage citizens of all ages, all communities and local organisations, based or carrying out the majority of their activities within Glasgow, to participate in sport and related physical activities and through this to live healthy lifestyles
– assist members to develop their clubs and organisations through facilitating programmes and services that address their particular needs

A massive congratulations to all our teams involved in the Glasgow League 2018. We have had a fantastic season including a league win for our Hurricanes squad in the Men’s development league, well done guys! There were also close calls for both our Women’s Force team and Mixed Cyclones team who both lost out in close finals, a fantastic effort. The club contributed the most teams to the league this season with 7 teams across the men’s, women’s and mixed divisions, a huge effort put in by all our players.
Our focus now moves on to the internal club league, where over the next 6 weeks all our players get mixed in to different teams to experience playing with other players and most of all have a bit of fun (while still winning of course…).
Want to meet new friends, have fun, get fit and try a new sport? Sign up to our Women’s beginner touch rugby sessions (19 years +) at Glasgow Green on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st of January 2017.
Wear warm outdoor sports kit, bring a waterproof and football boots if you have them, if not then please wear trail or grippy trainers.
At these sessions the Glasgow Lions coaches will cover passing and catching and other basic skills needed to play touch rugby.
Please sign up to our Facebook event and we will private message you to confirm. Alternatively you can get in touch via email (email@example.com) for all the details.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Last night the Lions held their annual AGM and prize giving. Thank you to all those who attended and the full reports will be published in due course for those who were not able to attend.
Those who were not there may or may not be aware that both our chair (Adrian O’Sullivan)and vice chair (Brian McCluskey) have stepped down. Both of them have put in a huge amount of work over the years to bring the club forward, and without them the Lions would not be the club it is today, so thank you both.
To the new chair, David Anderson, and vice chair, Stewart Robison, congratulations on your appointment and good luck in your new roles.
The Lions set some long and short term goals at the start of the season. One of the short term goals was to finish in top 8 of the STS this year and we finished 7th! This is a huge achievement and this is largely down to the hard wok put in by our coaching director, Gillian Bond, and her coaching team. A massive thank you to you all for your hard work throughout the season.
Finally, a last thank you to the money lady, Cathy Bertuccelli, for keeping us afloat (and in the black!) this year, and also to all the committee members and volunteers from last season. The club is run by volunteers and it’s down to everyone’s hard work that we are where we are today.
Enjoy the off season and will see you all at the next social event!

There is going to be a Level 1 referee course on Sunday 24th April (time tbc) at Hillhead Sports Club, presented by Phil Leeks, who most of you will know from the league/tournaments.
We would like as many members as possible to put themselves forward for the course, whether you are new or experienced. The club is now very light on qualified referees and as you will all know the sport depends on player referees, without them we cannot enter tournaments or leagues and that impacts you all as players because if we cannot enter there will be no opportunities to play.
All the costs of the course are covered, you will receive a referee shirt and whistle. It involves a couple of hours of presentation, practise some signals and then a multiple choice exam. Also, Michael Bottom will be at our Beginners Tournament providing referee coaching and assessment so that anyone who takes the course will be able to take their practical assessment at our tournament and receive their Level 1 badge.
If you need any further encouragement, then taking the course will make you a better player. You will have a sound understanding of all the rules, reduce your penalty count and be able to spot, and take advantage of, attacking penalties before they’re blown.
If you are interested, please sign up here.
The Glasgow Lions are now inviting entries for the Beginners one day touch tournament to be held on Saturday 7th May 2016.This will be held at Cartha Rugby Club in Glasgow. Entry fees are £120 per team and the deadline for all entries is Monday 18th April 2016.
Full information, including the registration form can be found here, but if you have any questions, please get in touch at email@example.com.
The first tournament of the season has been confirmed as the Six Pack One Day Mixed Touch Tournament. It will be held on Saturday 2nd April at Peffermill Playing Fields in Edinburgh, starting at 9.30.
All registered players should now have received an email about the tournament. Can all players please make sure full payment is made to the Lions account no later than Sunday 27th March. Please mark ‘your name Edinburgh’ as the reference. The tournament cost is £10.
More information on the day will follow in due course.
Despite our best efforts we have not been able to confirm the Valencia Tournament for 2016, which is sad I know, but fear not as a Lions tour is happening!
Now what European City could the Lions travel to, with the least amount of temptation and the lowest possible chance of trouble happening………………………………………??? Yup, no better city for it than AMSTERDAM!!!
That’s right, we are sending a team to the Touch ‘n’ Tulips tournament in Amsterdam, on the 23rd April 2016. This is an all day tournament on the Saturday, so get your clogs at the ready.
There are 3 flights a day to Amsterdam from Glasgow so plenty of options for flights, and I do believe both KLM and Easy Jet are currently on sale so check out the flights!!
More info about the tournament and accommodation options and prices will be sent at a later date but if people have any questions please email firstname.lastname@example.org
It’s that time of year, where we have to ask you to sign up and pay subs for the upcoming season. All members must complete a membership form, and pay a membership fee of £25 for existing members or £1 for new members (any new member to the club since August 2015), on or before 5th February 2016.
